The Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry section at the College of Agriculture, Pune was established in the year 1905. Prof. A.A. Maggit was the first Agricultural Chemist to the Government of Bombay. With the establishment of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth in 1969, the post of Agricultural Chemist was designated as Professor of Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science.
