Regional Extension Centre

The Regional Extension Centre, College of Agriculture, Pune started functioning in this College campus from 1st July, 2000 with a view to transferring the modern agriculture technology generated by the University to the farmers of Pune and Solapur Districts through the Extension Workers working in the Pune and Solapur districts of State Agricultural Departments and other developmental departments of the State Govt. and to train these personnel.
The Centre is functioning under the leadership of Extension Agronomist who is in the cadre of Associate Professor of Agronomy. There are four Subject Matter Specialists in the cadre of Assistant Professor in the disciplines of Agronomy, Animal Science and Dairy Science, Horticulture and Plant Protection. The centre is supported by one Jr. Stenographer and a Driver.

Conducting monthly district workshops of Pune and Solapur districts to take review of various agricultural development activities carried out in these districts by the Extension Officers of State Agriculture and other departments. |

Transferring technology developed by the agricultural universities to these extension personnel by conducting periodical trainings, seminars etc. |

Conducting Farmer's Melavas for transfer of technology to the farmers. |

Providing advisory services to the farmers on their specific problems. |

Arranging crop pest and disease diagnostic surveys. |

Conducting and supervising the adaptive trial and frontline demonstration plots. |

Conducting Workshops/ Seminars and exhibition etc. on the subjects related to the Agriculture. |

Providing Extension services to the farmers of Agricultural Technology Village. |

Establishment of Agriculture Technology Information centre at Alandi (Devachi) Tal.
Khed, Dist. Pune with a view to providing and transfer of new agricultural technology to the devotees of Sant Dnyaneshwar and providing the extension services to the farmers of the surrounding area. |

Providing On-Farm Mobile Crop Clinic services to the farmers on their fields itself in Solapur and Pune Districts. |

Established a Farmer-Scientist Forum wherein 70 innovative farmers from Pune district have been selected and provided them with identity cards. Guiding them day to day in farming and allied enterprises and work for their financial status improvement. |
The main object of the Regional Extension Centre is to transmit the technology released by the Agricultural Universities to the farmers directly or through State Development agencies. This center has established strong linkage between scientists of the Agricultural Universities and Extension Staff of the State Department through organization of periodical trainings, monthly meetings, workshops, interaction trainings and seminars of Pune and Solapur districts. Further the linkage between farmers and the REC has been established through organization of farmers trainings, different types of demonstrations, trials, field visits, farmers rallies and exhibitions, study tour and surveillance team visits. The linkage is further strengthen among the farmers and the center through frequent visits of mobile crop clinic laboratory to the villages.
One vehicle converted into Mobile Crop Clinic is provided to this centre for undertaking the above extension activities and for performing the mobile crop clinic activities viz., soil & water analysis; crop diseases & pest diagnosis and suggesting control measures for the same.
In future this center proposed to establish an unique extension center wherein farmer get solution of his all difficulties and receives seeds, seedlings, grafts, cuttings of expected plants alongwith university produce like bio-fertilizers, mushroom spawn, agricultural products and bi-products including Phule drinks and dry fruits. Further, Demonstration Park of all the agricultural technologies including implements, irrigation and drainage systems etc. will be established in miniature basis at the center. At the last the centre will try to satisfy the visiting farmers fully and should carry new ideas, technologies with him to improve his economic status.
